Hey y'all,
On Thursday I mentioned that Will had a fever and didn't feel too well. By 5pm his temp was 103 with the ear thermometer. He was climbing in my lab with his blanket and falling asleep. Now anybody who knows us, knows that IS NOT Will. We tried to get him an appointment on post, but being 5pm, we had no such luck. Will and I headed to the closest ER. We got in rather quickly considering an ambulance pulled up right before us. His rectal temp was 103.7. They immediately tried giving him Motrin that he refused in a NOT so nice way, but seemed to get a little of it down.
The Doctor was VERY quick to tell me that he had an ear infection. I was quick to tell her I seriously doubted that since there was NO drainage from his ears. She insisted that was the case since his ears were red. Well, I am NO Doctor, but if a kid has been screaming for almost 2 hours, wouldn't you EXPECT their ear drums to be a little red?? Hmmm. Anyhow. She looked at nothing else on him and decided he needed a shot of Rocefin. I agreed ONLY because IF it were anything bacterial, Rocefin would most likely kill it off rather quickly. After being thrown up on three times and waiting an hour for our discharge paper work, it was finally time to go home!
Will's fever stayed around all night long. We were continuing to give him Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours without fail. Sometimes he kept it down and sometimes he didn't. But we tried regardless. Neither Mike nor I got much sleep Thursday evening.
On Friday, his fever was STILL over 100. We called his pedi and they were "booked" or so we were told. Our wonderful neighbor informed me that the clinic was EMPTY and she was just there. SO guess where we headed? Right to the clinic! Mike came with us. For some reason they seem to respond better to men in uniform. Go figure. Amazingly, we got right in!! This Doctor was great. She rechecked his ears, specifically looking for fluid. There was none. She did a flu test and a strep test. All of them were negative! So here we are left with a viral CRUD! She did give us some Tylenol suppositories since Will wasn't keeping anything down.
After his afternoon nap, Will was given a suppository. His fever suddenly went away. He was feeling SO much better. He actually ate! It was Nila wafers and some juice, but hey, I'm not picky, it was food. He slept OK last night and so far has had a GREAT day! He is currently napping and will be ready to play later this afternoon.
Today is Mike's birthday and I need to get going on the cake making before he and Morgan return from the movie!! Have a great weekend all!
