Wants/Needs

A few weeks ago Morgan had a writing assignment for school that had the kids write a paragraph about things they NEEDED vs. things they WANTED. Now we all know in the 7yr olds mind they NEED everything. Well, at least according to Morgan's paper, she NEEDED candy. I promise I do not deprive er of this childhood staple, I just highly limit the intake of such goodies. The Dentist loves me because my children have no cavities.

Anyhow, I was thinking about this today while I was out at the grocery store. There are A LOT of things I would really LOVE to have. And sometimes, I really think I NEED said things. But truly, MOST of them are just wants. And most of my WANTS are not even for me!!

Like for instance, I really WANT a wagon so that Morgan can pull her brother in the back yard. Or so Will and his friend Alexis will have something to ride in when we go to the zoo in a few weeks. Now seriously, do the kids NEED a wagon? Heck no, but it sure beats riding in a stroller all the time. And boy wagons sure can be fun!

I really WANT a nice sized kiddie pool for the back yard this summer. Is it a MUST have? Nope. But it sure would be nice not to have to pull the sprinkler out all the time into our yard that HOLDS water!

Now there are things we do NEED. Like, like, like...well, I guess since I cannot come up with anything off the top of my head here, all of our basic NEEDS must be met! We have a house that I absolutely adore. Thank you Army housing for the first time EVER! We have running water, heat and air. We even have food to eat. Granted I have to cook it and most times I do not WANT to do so. But we are still fed. And fed rather well gauging by my waistline. We have clothes and the means to wash them.

So I guess what I am saying here is that though all of our basic NEEDS are met, we all still have things we WANT. Though I WANT a nap, Morgan will be home soon and I will never get one. Oh well. I guess I better start another load of laundry that NEEDS to be done.
